São Paulo - Guillemots

A truly great song, at 10 minutes long.
It is released for the first time on debut album 'Through The Windowpane', 10/7/06
But has been played as a grand finale at shows since mid-2005

Originally played on piano, adapted for guitar

FIRST SECTION
(In 6/8 time - chorus switches to a kind of slow swing rhythm based on it)
This riff goes over the top of the chords given; begin with the riff, then branch out,
and just arpeggiate the chords you are playing randomly.

   Sit down my love of open spaces

   And greet my love that's all been spent
                                         /
   I'm going to tell you both a story

   About some memories that I've dreamt

   See I've lost love in many places

   Not least the streets of São Paulo
                                          /
   One friend especially I did make there

   A tenth floor window took her home

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   Sometimes I could cry for miles
Sometimes I could cry for miles
Sometimes I could cry for miles
But I don't
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

   So hush the shadows in the oak tree

   Be still the curlew on the moor
                                          /
   My heart has fallen by the wayside

   I cannot claim her anymore

   So don your duffel coats quite slowly

   And this drop jury shall adjourn
                                          /
   And on the streets of old São Paulo

   I watched my baby being burned

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   Sometimes I could cry for miles
Sometimes I could cry for miles
Sometimes I could cry for miles
But I don't
   Sometimes I could cry nine times
Drop my bags and run for miles
Sometimes I could live nine lives
But I won't, but I wooooon't
SECOND SECTION
In 4/4 time, thankfully
Key change to Bb! So you know what to do to make it easier...
Somehow move the capo up to the 3rd fret. These chords are relative to the 3rd fret capo.
Have you ever been thrown across the water
Have you ever been thrown across the water
Have you ever been thrown across the water
                                   / (no 3rd)
   When there's no skin left on your bones......
                                                                               (chords etc.)
Thrown across the water, thrown across the water, thrown across the water like a stone
Thrown across the water, thrown across the water, thrown across the water like a stone
Thrown across the water, thrown across the water, thrown across the water like a stone
Thrown across the water, thrown across the water, thrown across the water like a stone
Ah, get me a doctor, get me a doctor, who will get rid of my bones
Oh, get me a lover, get me a lover, who will leave my little head alone
Ah, get me a soldier, get me a soldier, who will fight me a pointless war
Ah, get me an exit, I need an exit, be it window, or be it door
Thrown across the water, thrown across the water, thrown across the water like a stoooone
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.. (lol)
Ah, get me a lawyer, get me a lawyer, who will sue the world for me
Ah, get me a poison, get me a poison, get me a poison who isn't me
Cos I'm getting tired, I'm getting tired, of my stupid little face
I, don't belong here, don't belong here, don't belong in this horse-race
Na na na na na na na na naa naa.....
Na na na na na na na na naa naa.....
Na na na na na na na na naa naa.....
Na na na na naaaaaaa naaaaaaaaa.....
[Improv etc - hit guitar and random objects]
Oooooooooohhh.....
Thrown across the water, thrown across the water, thrown across the water like a stone
Thrown across the water, thrown across the water, thrown across the water like a stone...
