so i'm walking along, on my way somewhere
in a rush 'cos I've somewhere to go
when I can see in the distance quite far away
it's someone that I think that I know
well i don't know his name but he always says hi
i guess he thinks that i'm one of his friends
i only spoke to him once, and it was ages ago
and it was just so i could borrow his pen
i do not want to say hi
look i don't mean to be rude
it's not that i don't like you
it's just that i'm not in the mood
well he's coming my way and i'm going his way
we're gonna have to pass each other by
but i'll do anything if it only means
i don't have to look him in the eye
well i pretend i'm adjusting the strap on my bag
just to make it slightly more tight
i put my hands in my pockets and rummage around
and turn my head a bit to the right
i do not want to say hi
look i don't mean to be rude
it's not that i don't like you
it's just that i'm not in the mood

well now we're only a few short feet away
and there's just a few seconds to go
but there's just been definite eye-contact
and it's far too late as both of us know
well i can see him, he can see me and we can see eachother
one of us'll have to go first
and so as we pass, we briefly glance at eachother and make this noise:
"'right?"
i do not want to say hi
